Episode 38: Taiwan Kickoff

March 16, 2026

The weather is just right. Wearing a down jacket is actually a bit too warm. I’ve arrived in Taiwan.

Now, let me be clear: this isn't a vacation. And it’s definitely not an "all-you-can-eat" gourmet food tour. There's a pro-wrestling event happening here in Taiwan. And even though I’m not actually competing, there I am on the poster—sitting right in the center, looking all important.

Wait. Is this a case of "advertising a pedigree but selling a mutt" (selling mutton as dog meat)? Well, I guess you could call it a "desperate measure" (Kunikunosaku)... or maybe just a "dog-meat measure" (Kunikunosaku)? ( ̄(工) ̄)

Anyway, it’s been a while since I’ve been abroad, but I don’t quite have the energy levels to write a full-blown travelogue anymore. On the other hand, I’d hate for people to say, "What on earth did you even go there for?!" So, I’ve decided to report for myself: "I did some solid work!" Yes. That sounds about right (lol).

I mean, the true objective of this trip is to establish a strong connection with Taiwan. ...What’s that? You're asking if we don't have one already? Ugh. We do. Chairman Sugabayashi loves Taiwan and has already done a very thorough job building those bridges.

"Wait, then what exactly did you go there for?" you ask! Hmm... Hmm... Hmm...

To personally report to the fans in Taiwan: "Hiroshi Tanahashi (Ponchao Hong-Zhi) has retired." Yes. Let’s go with that. And after that...

I'll eat some Xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) and some of that fluffy shaved ice. Mission Accomplished!?
