Episode 31: The Great Reschedule (The Great Risuke)

March 5, 2026
I can’t deny that it feels a bit "too little, too late," but I’m still struggling to master business terminology.
It happens a lot, especially during presentations at Board of Directors meetings. Lately—well, actually, for a long time—I’ve been tripping over the term "Gross Profit" (Arari). It’s read as Arari, not Sori. If it were Sori (which also means "sled" in Japanese), I’d probably just slide right out of the room.
But I keep accidentally saying "Sori." Yeah... I’m "Sori" (Sorry). (← And just like that, I "slid"/bombed in a different way. Lol.)
So, how about we all study together? Business terms!
The "Gross Profit" mentioned earlier is the pure sales profit from goods or services after subtracting the cost of goods sold from total sales. From there, you subtract labor and advertising costs to get "Operating Profit," and after taking out all expenses and taxes, the final profit left is the "Net Profit." Ah, "Net Profit"... what a beautiful ring to it ♪ If I ever have to write a profile in the future, I’m putting "Net Profit" as my favorite word.
Ooh ♪ Look at us. Our knowledge is growing! Everyone, please let yourselves be "dragged into"—I mean, "join me" in my studies.
Alright, here we go! First, let’s look at terms used in workflow and project management:
-
Assign: To allocate people or tasks.
-
Ugh, I’m definitely never using this.
-
Agenda: A list of meeting topics or a schedule.
-
I haven't used this once in my entire life.
-
Fix: To finalize or decide something.
-
Oh, I use this! There’s a wrestling move too, right? The Cross Fix (Diving Armbar).
-
Reschedule (Risuke): To reorganize a schedule.
-
I know this one! Let’s keep going!
-
Bottleneck: A factor or obstacle hindering progress.
-
What?! I’ve never met anyone in my life who uses this. When a wrestling fan hears "Neck," we think "Breaker." A "Bottle-Neckbreaker" → Neck damage so severe it hinders all progress. ...Okay, let’s be serious.
-
Feedback: Communicating evaluations or improvements regarding a result.
-
Workflow: The sequence of industrial or administrative processes.
-
Ooh ♪ In that case, what would a "High Fly Workflow" mean...? (Self-censored).
-
Progress (Shinchoku): The state of how things are moving along.
-
I use this a lot. Like, "My progress is faster than light!" (Lol).
-
Resources: Management assets like People, Goods, and Money.
-
I see. Having People, Goods, and Money all together is... "Risou-ssu" (The Ideal). Let’s remember it like that.
-
Literacy: The ability to understand or utilize information in a specific field.
-
Commit: To engage with responsibility.
-
The RIZAP commercials used it as "Commit to results," didn't they? I'm going to commit, too!
Okay, let's stop there for now. You can't learn them all at once. The Tanahashi Column: Read it and get smarter! I look forward to your continued support.
Though, I apologize—I’ll be taking Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays off. Consider it a "Reschedule" (Risuke)!
