Episode 107: The Ace of Asia

New Japan Pro-Wrestling is currently a global organization with a vast fan base not just in Japan, but all over the world (and that’s a fact!).
Our overseas strategy—including independent NJPW events in America and our joint show with AEW, "FORBIDDEN DOOR"—is one of the most critical priorities for the company's growth.
Today, as President, I want to share a little hint exclusively with the readers of this column regarding a "secret plan I'm quietly working on for our international expansion."
Up until now, when people thought of NJPW's overseas strategy, the primary focus was the "American market." Naturally, America is the heartland of pro wrestling. In fact, I recently paid my respects to Tony at AEW, and I'm really looking forward to how our relationship develops moving forward.
However, as President, what I'm intensely focused on right now is a "full-scale re-entry into the Asian market."
Asia is home to a massive younger generation that holds a strong affinity for Japanese pop culture, such as anime, manga, and video games. Taiwan, where we held an event this year, is exceptionally friendly toward Japan.
I am firmly convinced that NJPW’s clear-cut stories of good versus evil, breathtaking physiques, and deeply "emotional battles" will inevitably resonate with the hearts of young people across Asia, transcending any language barriers.
As for the specific plan I’m targeting, it involves establishing cooperative partnerships with local pro wrestling promotions, as well as "local scouting (talent discovery)."
For example, we could invite young talent with incredible athletic ability from various Asian countries to the NJPW Dojo, hammer the Japanese Strong Style into them, and have them make their debut.
If a superstar born from that specific country emerges, NJPW's popularity in that region will explode! And when we hold a triumphant return show over there... NJPW will be sitting pretty financially.
In the past, my dream was simply "to make pro wrestling more exciting." But now, I have a new dream: "to deliver New Japan Pro-Wrestling to people all across the globe."
Following English-speaking regions like America and the UK, I want to set Asia ablaze with excitement. Wouldn't taking an Asian tour together with all our Japanese fans be the absolute best? (Mmmm, soup dumplings!♪)... Yours truly, the Ace.
