Episode 105: Determination... Once Again

July 9, 2026
I feel like I've written this so many times already, but let me make an honest confession.
After the January 4th Tokyo Dome show, before I even realized it, I had gained 15 kilograms. The internet started buzzing with people asking, "Is Tanahashi gonna be okay?"—and to my surprise, it even turned into a news article.
Currently, I'm down 3kg, sitting at 106kg. From here, my plan is to bring it down to 85kg in three months. That’s the roadmap this time. Losing 21kg in three months... okay, maybe that’s a bit unreasonable...
But who thinks about losing before they even try?! So, I’ve just gotta give it my all.
Besides, isn't there a Western proverb that goes, "Those who control their body shape control their management"? (Well, theories vary on whether that proverb actually exists or not...)
That being said, obsessing over it too much can sometimes backfire. So I’ll just slightly reduce each meal, up my workout volume, and take it step by step like that.
Maybe I should also stop blindly stepping on the scale every single day? Once a week or so sounds better. Ruining my physical health through extreme weight loss would completely defeat the purpose, so I need to take it gradually. And there it is! The key word: Gradually.
My diet rule is simple: "Don't overeat at night." As for exercise, three training sessions a week. Let's keep it reasonable at this level.
Now that I'm older, I hope to demonstrate an "adult method of weight loss" that’s different from what I used to do in my younger days.
Through sponsor events, radio recordings, and similar engagements, I meet a lot of corporate executives, and every single one of them looks sleek and trim (shu-tto).
I’m gonna get sleek and trim too. To the point where my name becomes "Tana-shu-shi Hiro-shu-shi" (lol).
I wonder what kind of face an 85-kilogram Hiroshi Tanahashi will have when standing before all of you in three months?!
Well... on a purely practical note, the waistlines on five of my suits currently won't close, making them unwearable. So if I don't fix this urgently—no, wait, gradually—I might end up dragging a pile of suits to an alteration shop pretty soon!
